• Die Siedlungsnamen des Bistums Eichstätt von Dr. Michael Bacherler (1924): Rothenturm (Ingolstadt) nach Hartmann 125 nicht zum roten Turm, sondern Ort, wo Dornen (thurn) gerodet wurden; dann dürfte aber der Ort nicht Rothenturm, sondern mühte Thurn(en)roth heißen; diese Deutung ist darum als den Gesetzen der Namengebung widersprechend abzulehnen.

In Irish it is rath, "a fort" or "fortress," as Rathcormack, tath Connate, "Cormac's rath or fort." There are 88 Townlands named Raheen, which signifies "a little fort."A similar word occurs in Scotch Gaelic topography, as Raithburn, "fort of the stream " (Ayrshire).
